This beautiful BMW M4 G82 Competition was bought in for development by Smiths Sports and Performance a specialist dealer based in Nottingham. It’s owned by friend and former Hybrid Tune Mini Challenge star driver Sam Smith. This particular car an absolute eye turner with the full carbon pack and finished in Sao Paulo yellow.
Stunning as this car looks we we’re far more interested in the potential of the remarkable S58 engine from BMW. Much like its predecessor the S55, BMW opted amongst many other changes to ditch the twin scroll single turbo setup of the B58 for a single scroll twin turbo setup. The engine boasts a closed deck lightweight, ultra-tough aluminum block. Delve into the inner workings, and you’ll be met with forged rods, a forged crank, and even forged pistons. Combine that with a lowered compression ratio of 9.3:1 as opposed to 11.0:1 of the B58 and you have a very exciting engine with the potential to make a lot of power even on pump fuel.
